Although the relation between teacher—student relationship and academic achievement has been addressed in many studies, the reciprocal relations between these two constructs have not been explored sufficiently. The aim of the present study was to test three competing models that hypothesized directionality of influence in relations between teacher acceptance, student-perceived teacher support, and academic achievement. Eight hundred sixteen students from 3 different grade levels in Slovenian elementary and secondary schools, covering the age range from late childhood through early-to-middle adolescence, participated in the study at the beginning and at the end of the school year.

The relationship between learning styles and academic performance in TURKISH physiotherapy students

Although the teacher-student relationship has been addressed in some studies, the cooperation or reciprocal relations between teachers and students have not been explored sufficiently. In this paper, a difference equation model is applied to express the relationship, stability analysis at the positive steady state of the discrete model is done to verify that the performance output is not empty, and hypothesis testing is conducted to show the validity of the model by means of sample data from a college. Then some reasonable suggestions are proposed to improve the performance output of teachers and students. It is clear that teacher-student relationship lies at the heart of teaching and learning, but it is not easy to clarify and measure the relationship better from the perspective of teachers or students or both [ 6 ]. The interaction between teachers and students is a complex system which will involve age, sex, family socioeconomic status, feelings, beliefs, and other factors. At different stage from fundamental education through to college, the teacher-student relationship will have different characteristics, the ways how to build a good relationship between teachers and students will be different.

THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT-TEACHER RELATIONSHIP IN SCHOOLS

Metrics details. Learning style refers to the unique ways an individual processes and retains new information and skills. In this study, we aimed to identify the learning styles of Turkish physiotherapy students and investigate the relationship between academic performance and learning style subscale scores in order to determine whether the learning styles of physiotherapy students could influence academic performance. The learning styles of physiotherapy students were determined using the Grasha-Riechmann Student Learning Style Scales. Cumulative grade point average was accepted as a measure of academic performance. The Kruskal-Wallis test was conducted to compare academic performance among the six learning style groups Independent, Dependent, Competitive, Collaborative, Avoidant, and Participant. The most common learning style was Collaborative

This research explores relationships in schools, specifically interactions between teachers and students. Initially, the research examined an overview of teacher-student relationships and factors that contribute to these interactions. This overview included both teacher and student perceptions and personal characteristics and then examined the effects of teacher-student relationships on education and how teacher and student behaviors affect educational outcomes. The overview of the research literature concluded with how to develop positive relationships. Teacher expectations, attitude, familiarity, and communication all play a role in cultivating relationships in the classroom environment. The purpose of the research was to determine if improving relationships between teachers and students would decrease off-task behaviors during class. The intervention involved four weeks of initiatives focused on developing improved teacher-student relationships.

Why Teacher-Student Relationships Matter

Students spend more than 1, hours with their teacher in a typical school year. Education watchers have long known that the relationship with a teacher can be critically important to how well students learn. But emerging research is giving a clearer picture than ever of how teachers can build and leverage strong relationships with their students. A Review of Educational Research analysis of 46 studies found that strong teacher-student relationships were associated in both the short- and long-term with improvements on practically every measure schools care about: higher student academic engagement, attendance, grades, fewer disruptive behaviors and suspensions, and lower school dropout rates.

Why Strong Teacher Relationships Lead to Student Engagement and a Better School Environment

Teachers benefit, too. In a study, Arizona State University researcher Victoria Theisen-Homer found different teacher-training programs prioritized different kinds of relationships with students:. The study also found in an analysis of two of these programs that teachers trained in the instrumental focus were more likely to go on to teach in low-income, high-minority schools, while those trained in reciprocal relationships ended up in schools with more high-income and white students.
