This review paper deals with advances made in the last two decades in the acoustics of flow ducts for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning hvac systems and engine mufflers. The context, concepts, methods used and results have been highlighted.
Frequency-domain one-dimensional analysis of reflective mufflers has been emphasized because of its basic importance and wide application. Finally, problems needing further research have been identified. Download to read the full article text.

Munjal, born on 4 April in the Indian state of Punjab , graduated in mechanical engineering with honors in from Panjab University and a master's degree in internal combustion engineering from the Indian Institute of Science IISc in He served IISc in many positions: chairing the department of mechanical engineering during —94, the division of mechanical sciences from to , and serving as the convener of the Chairmen of Divisions from to In , he served at the Technical University of Berlin for a year. Then in —95 he served as a visiting scientist at Ford Motor Company at their Michigan centre. Munjal lives in Bengaluru , Karnataka.
